Rider University Weather Update: Campus Closure and Remote Classes (2026)

Winter Storm Alert: Rider University's Response

In light of the impending winter storm, Rider University has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its community. Here's a breakdown of the university's plan:

University Closure and Class Rescheduling:
Due to the severe weather conditions, Rider University has decided to close its doors on Monday, January 26, 2026. This means no classes will be held, and only essential staff members are required to report for duty. The spring semester will now commence on Tuesday, January 27, with classes conducted remotely to accommodate the potential impact of the storm. Regular in-person classes will resume on Wednesday, January 28, as long as conditions permit.

Remote Work Encouraged:
To minimize travel risks, employees are strongly encouraged to work remotely on Tuesday, January 27, unless they are AFSCME personnel or essential workers. Essential staff will be notified by their supervisors regarding their work arrangements.

Move-In Adjustments:
For students planning to move into their residence halls, the university recommends delaying the move-in until Tuesday, January 27, between noon and 7 p.m. This decision is made to ensure a safer and more manageable move-in process. However, if students are unable to move in during this window, they can opt for Saturday, January 24, from noon to 7 p.m. Detailed information regarding move-in procedures will be communicated via Rider email.

Dining Services:
Daly Dining Hall will be open during the storm, operating from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (January 24-26). Additionally, Wendy's, The Market, and Starbucks will be open on Saturday, January 24, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All dining retail operations will resume regular hours starting Tuesday, January 27.

Event Cancellations:
For updates on event cancellations or postponements, students and staff are advised to reach out to the respective organizers. The university encourages everyone to prioritize safety and make informed decisions regarding travel during this challenging weather event.

Stay Informed, Stay Safe:
Rider University's top priority is the safety of its community. Stay tuned for further updates and follow the university's official channels for the latest information. Remember, safety comes first! And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the storm, but also about being prepared and adaptable. So, Broncs, stay safe, and let's navigate this winter challenge together!
